Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena and OVG Facilities are thrilled to announce the promotion of William Wilson to Director of Events.

Wilson has been a part of the OVG Facilities team since 2018 when he started as an Events and Operations Intern during the opening of Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena, known at that time as UMBC Event Center. During his internship, he obtained his bachelor's degree in hospitality with a concentration in sports venue management at the University of Missouri - Columbia. Over the last three years, Wilson has served as an Event Manager in which he led a team of guest services staff, managed day-to-day event operations, and facilitated some of the venue's most successful events, including Bob Dylan, Avett Brothers, Fantasia, and the Millennium Tour.

As Wilson takes on this new challenge in his career, he cannot help but reflect back on the beginning. “To think back where we started to where the venue and team is now, it is just a sight to see,” Wilson said. “From eight of us sharing a tiny office with no elevators installed... the venue was not even finished... to see all the sold-out shows come to fruition really is incredible.”

Wilson has worked alongside General Manager, Tiffany Sun, as an intern and now as the Director of Events. When asked about his career progression Sun said, "Will has been an important asset to Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena – since both his day one as an intern and the arena’s day one. We are lucky to have him as part of our team, and I’m so thrilled that he is taking the next step in his career right here with us at CEIA."

When asked about his future plans Wilson said “my goal is to one day be a General Manager at a sports and entertainment venue and becoming a Director of Events is a great step toward that goal.” For now, Wilson is looking forward to taking on more responsibility advancing shows here in Baltimore and has been assisting another OVG Facilities property, the Fredericksburg Nationals Park, in advancing their summer concert series as well. For him the most enjoyable part of working in this industry is “watching all the events start from nothing, go into full production, then welcoming thousands of fans into the seats”. One of Wilson's strengths has been his ability to work so well with guests and connect with our fans to make show day such an enjoyable experience. We know the future is bright for Mr. Wilson.
